Club for Boys Remodel Project in Rapid City Provides Space and Safety

 – By

The remodel allows the club to add curriculum and activities targeted for older boys

Written By: Joe Hockett / For Prairie Business | https://www.grandforksherald.com/prairie-business

The Club for Boys in Rapid City is excited to announce new growth to include a sports court, office space remodel, and Erickson building remodel in Rapid City.

Douglas Herrmann, executive director, Club for Boys says “the updates give us a significant increase in program space. We can now expand independent living skills in our programs. In addition, the sport court adds a place where we can expand outdoor activities that we used to do off-campus, now we don’t have to bus the boys to another location.”

Funding for this project was raised through a $2 million dollar Capital Campaign in 2019 with partial support awarded to the Club for Boys through the Rapid City Vision Fund and a grant from the John T. Vucurevich Foundation. The rest was raised through donor and community contributions.

Rolling out the Black Plastic

 – By

Project Update: The Spearfish Wastewater Treatment Plant Equalization Basin is nearing completion. RCS crews added the lining to the 170 foot by 250 foot holding tank.

“It’s strips of 60 millimeter thick high density plastic,” said Bob Everidge, plant superintendent. “They roll it out and then they weld it together so it’s impervious.”

The E.Q. basin project started in January, and will soon be ready to bypass up to 1.5 million gallons of raw sewage when the need arises.

Vote Yes

 – By

RCAS has a very lengthy and comprehensive plan for future building and remodeling. I would encourage anyone who thinks “there is no plan” to attend one of the informational meetings held throughout our community. Not only has the plan been heavily modified, trimming any fat that would have been present, but also addressing sustainability so that an investment today will be heavily rewarded in the future.

Perhaps most importantly, energy efficiency is addressed. The new schools will have better insulation, windows, and building material. Through heat recovery methods, geothermal design, utilization of wind energy, and updated lighting, the schools will consume much less energy. In addition to saving on energy, the buildings and remodels have been designed with low maintenance material.

The updating of our schools is perhaps one of the most important steps we as a community can take in moving us all forward. Rapid City tomorrow will only be what we create for our youth today. I would much rather build today with the future in mind rather than chance tomorrow. One thing is for sure, costs of construction, material, land, and education will certainly cost more, later.

I’m voting Yes RCAS. There’s a plan, a good one.
